Family Dining and Packed Lunches

At Greet, we supply our pupils with school meals that are not only cooked from scratch using fresh, healthy, nutritious ingredients but are also good value for money.

Being a healthy school, we aim to ensure that pupils are served a balanced, healthy meal everyday so we provide a wide variety of food choices including: a meat dish, fish dish and vegetarian options for our non-meat eaters. Our staff are highly aware of food allergies so we can guarantee that all of our children are catered for.

School dinners are served daily in the Dining Hall and Key Stage 1 Hall.

To make our dinners exciting, we regularly offer theme days to give children our children an opportunity to try new foods.  Recently these have included World Book Day, Chinese New Year, and Seaside – Fish & Chip Day.

Dinner money needs to be paid each week on Monday and can be paid anytime throughout the day for the whole week. School meals should be paid via the Arbor App.

School dinners are FREE for all children in Reception, Year 1 & 2.

Family Dining

We have taken elements of a Family Dining system and integrated them into our current lunchtime routines.  Our children are served by our Kitchen Staff and sit at tables in mixed year groups allocated to their school houses.   Children have 30 minutes to eat and 30 minutes on the playground.

Since introducing this new system in September 2022 we have seen numerous benefits such as:

  • Improved behaviour, manners and social skills in the dining hall.
  • Increased levels of independence and ‘life skills’.
  • Many children say they have made friends in new year groups and classes.
  • A nicer eating environment and experience in the hall; tablecloths, use of plates and cutlery, use of napkins.
  • A huge reduction in food waste.
  • Improved social skills shown by pupils as they have time to chat in the dining hall and do not rush eating their dinner.
  • A calmer environment in the playground with fewer accidents and improved behaviour.

Packed Lunches

If children prefer a cold meal, they are more than welcome to bring a packed lunch but we encourage healthy choices.

Packed lunches need to include:

  • Something substantially high in carbohydrate (such as sandwich, pasta, rice etc)
  • A piece of fruit or vegetable
  • Healthy snack
  • A drink (water or fruit juice)

Please note we are a nut free school, so no nuts, peanut butter etc in lunch boxes please.
