Reception Admissions

Parents' Open Morning

Our open morning for parents considering admissions for Reception classes in September 2018 was on 18th October 2018 at 9am and 14th November 2018 from 9-10am.

How to apply for a Reception place

Admissions for Reception in September 2019 can be applied for by clicking here. The final closing date for applications is Monday 15th January 2019.

School age - when can your child start school?

Reception is the first year of primary school. It comes after Nursery, but before Year 1.

Children in Birmingham can go to school (Reception) in the September after their 4th birthday.

Example

If your child was born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014, they'll be able to start school in September 2018.

National Offer Day 16th April 2019

  • Offers will be sent by email on 16 April 2019 by 5:15pm.
  • If you're happy with the school you have been offered, accept this offer by 30 April 2019.
  • Please do not contact Birmingham City Council before you receive the formal notification of your child’s school place. You must be in receipt of your formal notification email before contacting the council.

Accept the place offered?

We strongly encourage you to accept the place offered to your child.

This will not affect your child’s position on any waiting lists for other schools you have not been offered a place at or any appeals you may submit. Accepting the offer will ensure that your child has a school place for September.

Waiting lists

Your child’s name will be automatically added to the waiting list for any higher preference schools than the one offered.

Being on a waiting list does not mean that a place will become available.

More information about waiting lists will be available after National Offer Day.

Appeals

After places are offered, you will have the right of appeal for any school you were refused a place at.

More information about appeals will be available after National Offer Day.

When to apply

Parents can apply for a place in the Autumn of the year before their child turns 4 years of age. It’s important that you apply for a place as soon as possible:

  • attendance at a nursery class doesn’t give a child automatic priority for a place
  • don’t wait until your child is 5 years old, or your preferred school may already be full

You can list up to 3 preferred schools when you apply.

Secondary School Admissions (for Year 6 Pupils)

You have until 31st October 2018 to carry out your research - read the guidance carefully and complete your preference form online by clicking here.

Offers will be sent by email on 1 March 2019 by 3:30pm.

You must accept or refuse the offers made by the deadline of 15 March 2019.

Waiting list positions will not be available until after 1st March 2019.

Below is the time table for the Secondary School admissions process, this is also available on the Birmingham City Council website.
